KYEEMA Support Services chief executive officer Phil Cole has foreshadowed the possible demise of the long-serving Portland disability services provider as an impact of the National Disability Insurance Scheme. In a keynote speech at Heywood Rural Health’s annual general meeting last Thursday, Mr Cole warned the impacts of the NDIS when it becomes fully-operational throughout the nation, could swing dramatically from initially being in favour of client choices to eroding those choices. Kyeema is a respected institution in the Portland district, having stemmed from a public meeting in 1966 and opening its doors in June 1967. Despite predicting the possible demise of Kyeema, and other impacts stemming from the NDIS, Mr Cole told the meeting that the NDIS was a “great social program and is to be embraced to the fullest”.
