KYEEMA Support Services gardening group Green Fingers have purchased a new trailer with a grant from the Portland Aluminium Community Grants Program. The new trailer, which features a cage and a tipping tray, was welcomed by Green Fingers supervisor Craig Rosier, who said the trailer would help the group work more efficiently. The group operates out of Seawinds Nursery and gives Kyeema clients the chance to learn skills in gardening within the community. Green Fingers currently has three members who undertake gardening projects at local kindergartens, the Glenelg Shire Council and other community groups and individuals. “Portland WorkSkills also has us look after the garden boxes near them,” Mr Rosier said. “It’s great to get them out in the community, learning useful skills and getting their licences for chainsaws and spraying.” Members of the group are also offered the chance to use their experience and undertake study in horticulture at TAFE.
