Paid, volunteer firefighter mix working well
A SENIOR Portland Fire Brigade member believes Portland’s current firefighter staffing works well, and no extra paid staff are needed here for now.
Ian Hamley made a written submission to the Inquiry into the Firefighters’ Presumptive Rights Compensation and Fire Services Legislation Amendment (Reform) Bill 2017, and his was one of more than 350 submissions made to the inquiry.
Mr Hamley said stations classified as “integrated” must currently be staffed 24 hours, “on a 10/14 roster system (10 hour day/14 hour night shift).”
The CFA’s new Portland fire station was officially opened last year, with one paid firefighter working there until a full day shift of staff started their employment in January this year.
