Treasurer commends Portland’s optimism
VICTORIAN Treasurer Tim Pallas has praised the Portland community for its proactive approach to growing the economy, labelling it “one of the best success stories for regional Victoria”.
In a whirlwind visit to the city on Friday, Mr Pallas spoke at the Glenelg Shire Council’s development stakeholders forum, saying he was thrilled to see first-hand how policy changes and investment from the Victorian Government is reaping benefits, before giving an update on the state’s economy as a whole.
Before the forum, Mr Pallas met with staff and students of both Portland Primary School and Portland Bay School at the Palmer St site to inspect the $8 million of construction taking place.
“I’ve had the opportunity to wander around the community today and look at some of the school works being built at Portland Bay School and Portland Primary School,” Mr Pallas told the 50-strong crowd at the forum.
“It’s really great to see how those two schools are working together and putting up with a fair amount of inconvenience.”
