Hamilton and Grampians open with surprise wins
HAMILTON and Grampians began their chase for a spot in the Hamilton and District Cricket Association finals with upset victories in round one of the 2017-18 season on Saturday.
Hamilton caused the biggest upset when they triumphed against last season’s runner up, Macarthur, in a match that the Demons were expected to win easily.
With weather dawning overcast but fine, Simon Sharrock and Robbie Cook strode to the wicket to toss the coin for the first match of the summer, with Cook calling correctly and the visitors sent the home side into bat.
Cook handed the new ball to new recruit Tom Hiscock as Sharrock took guard and Michael Brilley stood at the non-strikers end.
