Caloundra win for artist Brett Jarrett
NARRAWONG wildlife artist Brett Jarrett is celebrating after winning the 2017 Holmes Art Prize for Excellence in Realistic Australian Bird Art on Wednesday night, for his painting ‘The Prospectors’ Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoos.
Mr Jarrett was delighted to be present at the Caloundra Regional Art Gallery in Queensland to accept the award in front of more than 200 art lovers, fellow artists and media who were present for the announcement of this year’s award winner.
Forty finalists’ works were included in the exhibition and a number of awards were announced.
The main prize of $15,000 was awarded for first prize.
The acquisitive art prize will now mean Mr Jarrett’s winning piece is hung in the private collection of Dr Gary Holmes.
Mr Jarrett has recently opened the Bay of Whales Gallery in Narrawong to showcase his works, and the winning painting has been on display there for the past two months prior to travelling to Queensland for the award.
A reproduction of the winning painting ‘The Prospectors’ Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoos is now available at his gallery as a gift card and is included in a 2018 calendar titled Birds by Brett Jarrett.
It will also be available as a print in the coming weeks.
For anyone wishing to see an array of animal and bird art by Mr Jarrett, they can do so by visiting the Bay of Whales Gallery Saturday or Sunday, 10am-4pm, at 47 Liebelts Road, Narrawong.
