Lights and star back on
THE Christmas lights and star on Portland’s famous Norfolk pines will be reinstated in the next week.
Glenelg Shire Mayor Anita Rank made the announcement on Saturday afternoon in a Facebook posting and then by media release yesterday.
It follows public outrage about a council announcement published on page 1 in last Friday’s Portland Observer in which a council spokesperson had said the council “… will not be reinstating the Norfolk pine lights and stars. Increasing costs and damaged lights during installation and removal have made the lighting plan to (sic) exorbitant to continue”.
Those details had come from a media release issued by the council on Wednesday, November 8.
However, Cr Rank said yesterday she was “pleased to say that everything is in place to light-up Norfolk pine complete with our iconic star”.
