Women’s Coasters topple Redbacks on the road
PORTLAND’S women’s Coasters have bounced back into winning form, employing a strong second half to cruise to a 52-28 victory in Ararat in the Country Basketball League yesterday.
The Coasters led the Redbacks by just eight points at half time, but began to pull away during the second half, courtesy of a consistent performance on offence.
Alana Strom top scored for Portland with 13 points, while Courtney Gadsden finished with 10 points.
A balanced scoring attack was a highlight for Portland during the win, and co-coach Cherie Beckingham said it was a great effort from the team.
“Because we’re trying to implement a new offence, we started the first quarter going head-to-head with them because it was all about drilling and making sure we were consistent and patient with each other,” Beckingham said.
“The longer we were consistent with our offence, the better we got and the more effective we got with drilling our offence.
“So we ended up running away with it in the end.”
