Coasters ready to host Millicent
COUNTRY Basketball League action returns from the mid-season break tomorrow with Portland playing host to Millicent in a back-to-back affair.
Beginning at the Portland Basketball Association at 6pm, the Coasters’ women’s side will tackle Millicent on the hunt for revenge.
The last time these two sides went head-to-head was on December 10 – with Millicent trouncing Portland by 26 points in a lopsided battle at Millicent.
Entering the contest with just seven players and coming up against a well-oiled outfit, Portland found strong performances form Courtney Gadsden (13 points) and Alana Strom (6 points) – however sorely missed the services of a number of key players, including coach Cherie Beckingham and star tall Taylah Nelson.
While the Coasters women will once again be without the on-court services of their coach in tomorrow’s match, with plenty of energy going into training and preparation during the holiday period, Beckingham said she was confident her side has what it takes to get the job done.
“We definitely haven’t played Millicent with a full strength team just yet and after this weekend that won’t have changed either,” Beckingham said.
