A perfect weekend
A WARM start to the long weekend saw visitors out and enjoying what the region had to offer, with fishing, the beach and live music popular, according to Portland Tourist Association president Dennis Carr.
“Band Since Tuesday at the Bridgewater Bay Café attracted a crowd on Saturday – they are always good – and the whole of Bridgewater’s been crazy-busy,” Mr Carr said.
Mr Carr operates Seaview Lodge Bed and Breakfast and said all the accommodation in the area had been booked out.
“If I have five more units, I could have filled them.”
Quest Apartments franchisee Vincent Bellerose said their 49 serviced apartments were booked out on Saturday and Sunday nights, with some guests staying while attending two different weddings, and other guests visiting popular attractions such as Cape Bridgewater, Cape Nelson Lighthouse and the local strawberry farm.
Portland Strawberries co-owner Pat Cutler said the farm enjoyed a bumper day during Saturday’s heat, selling fresh strawberries, local produce and icecreams.
The business has now started making its own icecream onsite, and strawberry and mixed berry icecreams in cones were particularly popular on the weekend.
“We also had lots of pick-your-own strawberries customers because it’s closer to the shop this year,” she said.
