No date change for Cyling Australia’s Tour of the Great South Coast
THE Tour of the Great South Coast is confirmed to return to Portland in August after Cycling Australia released its longawaited schedule for the 2018 National Road Series.
Part of the new-look tour season for Cycling Australia, the Tour of the Great South Coast will roll through the region from August 15-19.
Cycling Australia general manager Kipp Kaufmann said a date change was considered, but ultimately the idea was quashed.
“There was a discussion with local councils about the possibility of changing the Tour of the Great South Coast from August to October,” Mr Kaufmann said.
“However, there was strong feedback to suggest the new dates were already quite busy and the event would lose its impact, so we decided to keep the dates the same.”
Last year, 16 teams and 95 riders took in two stages in Bridgewater and Portland during the 2017 Tour of the Great South Coast, including a 40km race along Bentinck St and the foreshore.
