Impressive Heathmere too strong for Westerns
HEATHMERE has added to the hype of what is expected to be a formidable season in the South West District Football League after they defeated Westerns by 76 points at Alexandra Park on Saturday.
The highly anticipated match ended up being a blow-out result as the Meres took control of the game early on in wet and windy conditions.
Heathmere hit the scoreboard early leaving Westerns trailing by 36 points at the end of the first quarter.
The Roos hit back in the second quarter and reduced the margin to 26 at the long break, but couldn’t quite regain momentum which saw the Meres capitalise in the second half to run away with a convincing win.
Heathmere coach, Matt Lenehan, was impressed with the way his team went into the game and established a solid lead in the first quarter.
“It was our best four quarter effort so far this season including practice matches so I was pretty happy with the boys’ performance,” Lenehan said.
