Malseed helps teammate secure Commonwealth gold
PORTLAND cyclist Shannon Malseed has played a crucial role during Australian teammate Chloe Hosking’s gold medal ride at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.
Riding in the women’s road race on Saturday, Malseed was a workhorse throughout the 112 kilometre race, often at the front of the main group controlling the pace.
Malseed’s work alongside teammates Gracie Elvin, Tiffany Cromwell, Sarah Roy and Katrin Garfoot paid dividends during a frantic finish to the race, when Hosking sprinted home to claim the gold.
Hosking won the race in a time of 3 hours 2 minutes 18 seconds, ahead of New Zealand’s Georgia Williams and Wales’ Danielle Rowe.
New Zealand’s Sharlotte Lucas and Australia’s Roy rounded out the top five, which crossed the line in a bunch sprint.
