Thanks for a lifetime of Guide work
MANY people in the community know Kitty Bennett as Brown Owl because of her time as a Brownie leader.
Now Ms Bennett has earned an extra title thanks to the work she started in the Girl Guides decades ago.
The low-key, warm-hearted 91-year-old is now a life member of the Portland Naismith Trefoil Guild, an organisation for adult members of the Guiding movement.
“This is a huge shock,” Ms Bennett said at an afternoon tea held in conjunction with the group’s annual general meeting last week, after she was presented with her life membership by state Trefoil Guild advisor Rhonda Wiedemann.
However Ms Wiedemann said Ms Bennett was worthy of the membership after six decades serving Guiding.
“From everything I’ve heard about Kitty, this is a very well-deserved honour,” Ms Wiedemann, who travelled from Wangaratta, told the 15 people at the meeting.
