Missing link to Portland’s history found in shed
FOR the past 38 years, a piece of Portland’s history dating back to 1834 has been lying hidden away in a shed at Lynn Murrell’s Cape Nelson property.
Last Thursday, the missing part of Edward Henty’s plough, used to turn the first sod of soil in Portland, was donated to History House.
Mr Murrell said the metal links and hook which were used to connect the plough to the bullocks pulling the plough had gone unnoticed in his shed until a recent clean-up.
“When I found them I was scratching my head for a while because they were something I wouldn’t use, then it clicked and I went to History House and it all added up – the metal connection was the perfect fit for the plough,” Mr Murrell said.
