Regional music award for talented musician
YOUNG Portland musician Patricia Thompson has won a prestigious award that will give her access to professional musicians and concerts in Melbourne.
Patricia, 17, received the Newsboys Foundation Regional Music Award 2018, valued at $5000, when she attended the Melbourne Recital Centre’s annual Bach Competition on Sunday.
She had impressed judges with her trumpet performance of Bach’s Sleepers Awake, Air and Minuett during a recorded audition for the competition.
She also more than met the minimum performance qualification criteria: she has completed grade seven for performance through Australian Music Examinations Board; grade five or the equivalent was the minimum.
Patricia is also a member of popular local band Since Tuesday, plays cornet with the Portland Citizens Brass Band, has been a part of numerous school ensembles and is studying music at VCE level.
