CFA captain wants answers on roadside vegetation
WHO is responsible for maintaining roadside vegetation and ultimately keeping road users safe?
This is the question Broadwater CFA captain, Hugh McFarlane, has been asking since the St Patrick’s Day fires and is yet to receive a concrete answer from shires and parliament members.
During the March fires, old trees on roadsides posed major issues to homeowners trying to evacuate and to CFA volunteers trying to access and fight fires, acting as both a road block and fuel for the fire.
In the time since, Mr McFarlane has contacted relevant shires and parliamentarians and believes, “everyone is passing the buck”.
