Free tours a part of NAIDOC Week
OFFICIAL celebrations for NAIDOC Week include activities across the entire region.
While many local organisations have held events in the lead-up to NAIDOC Week, such as the annual South West Ball, observations will continue in Portland, Heywood and Lake Condah.
This morning Portland District Health is hosting a flag raising ceremony near its Fern St entrance at 10am, featuring the Winda-Mara Dancers and a community morning tea.
This afternoon, Winda-Mara Aboriginal Corporation is hosting its annual 21km community walk/run from Lovetts Lane in Heywood to the Lake Condah Mission from 1pm.
Tomorrow the community is invited to learn about the Gunditjmara people and experience the Budj Bim National Heritage Landscape with a free guided tour of Tyrendarra Indigenous Protected Area, led by the Budj Bim rangers.
Held from 10am to noon, bookings for the free tour can be made on 0458 999 315.
Winda-Mara is officially opening its new Thompson St building in Hamilton from 10-11.30am.
Later in the day tomorrow, Winda-Mara is also hosting a concert at the Heywood Community Hall from 7pm.
The evening event will feature soulful musician David Arden, along with a number of inspirational women guest speakers.
