Westerns breaks Heywood’s winning run
WESTERNS has snapped Heywood’s 11-game winning streak, after a strong final quarter in its round 12 South West District Football League clash on Saturday, defeating the Lions 8.14 (62) to 7.12 (54).
In a wet and windy game at Alexandra Park, neither team was able to break the game open in the first half, with only one point separating the sides at the main break, with the visitors leading 3.9 (27) to 4.2 (26).
With the wind at their backs, Heywood was able to establish a solid lead during the third quarter, kicking four goals to Westerns’ single major to lead by 17 points at the final break.
However, the Roos were able to finish strongly, having 10 scoring shots (3.7) to none in the final quarter to record an eight-point win, their sixth of the season.
