Lindsey clears eight hours in maiden ultra marathon
PORTLAND runner Aaron Lindsey completed his first ultra marathon on Sunday, participating in the Peaks and Trails event in Dunkeld on Sunday.
Lindsey, 40, was among 43 runners competing and completed the 50-kilometre event around Mount Abrupt in 7 hours 58 minutes 12 seconds.
Lindsey said to finish the event in just under eight hours was pleasing.
“The weather was kind and I was happy with the way my first ultra went; it all went fairly smoothly and I’m quite pleased,” Lindsey said.
“I had some advice from some friends to go out fairly conservatively so I stuck with that plan and when I got into the mountain climbs that I was slow and steady and I kept moving forward; that was the key.
“It was a bit hard to judge going into it what sort of time to aim for with the terrain, but I set myself a target of anything with a seven in front of it, so I was happy to get in under eight hours.”
