Student leaders receive national recognition
THE feats of the Portland Secondary College’s students’ representative council will be shared with the country after they were shortlisted for a national educational award.
The SRC group has been shortlisted for the Education Change Makers ‘Innovation in Education’ award, which will be featured at the EduChange 2018 summit in Melbourne in October.
To mark the shortlisting, Education Change Makers sent a film crew to Portland to detail the students achievements.
Student Voice and Leadership coordinator Liam Doyle said the students were rapt with the experience.
“The students were interviewed about their projects and their quality of student leadership roles within the school,” Mr Doyle said.
“This included the ‘Teach the Teacher’ program and healthy eating menu in the school canteen.”
Mr Doyle said the students’ work will also be featured at the Finnish HundrED summit in Helsinki from November 7-9.
“It’s great the students are being recognised, not only in Portland, but also internationally.”
