Artist returns to Hamilton to showcase work
CAPITAISING on recent success of Milk Bar, the Hamilton Gallery will this week open its doors to another exhibition which fuses bold, contemporary style with a distinct sense of nostalgia.
In a space of a few days the gallery will be transformed with a bright series of works, titled Botanica, by Hamilton raised Bruce Slorach who likes to stun with colour, scale and ambition.
The 55-year-old has fond memories of a childhood immersed in the wild places of the Western District, where his passion for Australia’s exotic flora and fauna was first ignited.
Many of his drawings pay homage to the plants he discovered when out in the Grampians; the Waratahs, flowering gums, kangaroos, cicadas and birds all lovingly translated into lively prints and colour palettes of indigos, greens and reds.
