Classic car turns heads
IT’S not often that a family car turns heads; however, Alan Taylor’s 48-year-old treasure is far from today’s soccer mum all-wheel-drives.
Mr Taylor’s is the proud owner of a 1970 Holden LC Torana in Pharaoh Gold and has remained the vehicle’s sole owner since he bought it for the sum of $2694.16.
“We bought the car brand new – I traded in my 1969 Belmont and ordered a couple of extras,” Mr Taylor said.
“I added a cigarette lighter for $3.50 and a set of mud flaps for $17.30.
“The car came with ‘rally wheels’ which were a half-inch wider than the normal tyres.
“I think it was possibly one of the first Toranas sold in Portland – we had to order it in if I remember correctly.”
Mr Taylor still has the original sales receipt from when he bought it from Reynolds Holden, along with a complementary key ring with business and after hours support.
The Holden LC Torana was Wheels magazine’s Car of the Year for 1969 and was the manufacturer’s frontline track race car in 1970.
