CORBETT CASE ENDS
A FIVE year battle of lengthy legal proceedings came to an end this week after the New South Wales High Court released its final verdict in the Burns Vs Corbett case.
A controversial story in The Spectator in 2013, quoted former federal election candidate and Lake Bolac woman, Tess Corbett, saying she did not want “gays, lesbians or paedophiles working in my kindergarten”.
At the time the story was published, Ms Corbett was a Katter Party candidate, challenging MP, Dan Tehan for the seat of Wannon.
Ms Corbett withdrew her political application a short time after the story was released.
The story was shared on the internet and fell into the hand of Sydney-based anti-discrimination activist, Garry Burns, who alleged Ms Corbett’s comments were a breach of the Anti-discrimination Act 1977, and thus the legal battle began.
