Old West returns to Cashmore
RANGE Wars is set to return to Portland this weekend as the Cashmore Cowpokes host its single action shooting competition at the Portland Pistol Club.
The likes of Jake Lonergan, Tex Longhorn and Cody Zamora will face off against 20 other shooters from across Victoria and South Australia in a series of competitions labelled the ‘The Hatfields versus The McCoys.’
“It’s basically the city slickers against the country folk,” explains Adam Stuchbery, who competes under the alias of Jake Lonergan.
“We have 24 people coming from as far as Frankston and Mildura in Victoria as well as Virginia, South Australia.
“We also have five shooters who competed in last year’s world championships, including the former world champion.”
Single Action Shooting is a competitive re-enactment sport where participants shoot with replica guns – authentic replica pistols, shotguns and rifles from the 1870s – whilst dressed in clothing of the same period.
Held at the Portland Pistol Club, 1260 Bridgewater Lakes Rd, Cashmore, the event will feature a number of events assessing accuracy and quickness across two days.
“The speed events start at 9am, and then main competition starts after midday.
“There will also be a formal on Saturday night, where everyone dresses up in formal clothing from the 1870s, and then we’re back at it from 9am-2pm on Sunday.”
Mr Stuchbery said the public can come along to watch the event, with safety glasses and ear plugs available for all.
