Portland battles for premiership glory
IT’S grand final time for Portland’s division two men and division three women in the Lower South East Hockey Association.
The men, who are aiming to go back-to-back, are set to face off against minor premiers Tigers – the team they beat in last year’s premiership – tomorrow afternoon, while the women will play Strikers tonight, with both games in Mount Gambier.
Division two men
Despite not having defeated Tigers this season, with a draw in round 20 their best result, Portland is going into the game confident of scoring a win.
Portland is coming into the contest off the back of a stirring shootout win against Strikers in the preliminary final and Chris Saunders, who scored two goals in the game, said his side is eager for the challenge.
“We’ve had a draw and lost after the final whistle against them in the last couple of games so we know that we’re very competitive against them,” Saunders said.
“The last game we played them we didn’t have a full strength side in so we’ll have some strong players coming back into the mix.
“Reagan Simons is probably the most notable player to return and Stephen Arthur who is a very tenacious defender and you can give him a key role and he’ll play it very well.”
