Portland through to grand final after thrilling win
PORTLAND goalkeeper Dayton Thomas was the hero during his side’s 4-3 win against Strikers in the Lower South East Hockey Association preliminary final on Saturday.
After the two sides finished tied at 2-all at the end of regular time and then extra time, the game went to a one-on-one shootout.
Thomas starred during the shootout, stopping four out of five shots, while Portland converted two of its five attempts through Reagan Simons and Regan Thomas.
Portland’s Chris Saunders, who scored two goals during regular time, said Thomas was a standout during a tough contest.
“He’s an excellent goalkeeper and he was the difference in the shootout when it all comes back on the goalie,” Saunders said.
