Magistrate sends stern warning
MAGISTRATE Jonathon Klestadt sent a warning to the greater community this week when he sentenced a Dunkeld man with an almost perfect record to three months in prison for leaving a man with a split lip.
Joseph Caldwell, 39, Old Cemetery Lane, was supported by his mother and partner in court and all appeared to be caught off-guard when Mr Klestadt said prison time was a real possibility, charged with intentionally causing injury and recklessly causing injury.
Police Prosecutor Leading Senior Constable, Kevin Mullins, told the Hamilton Magistrates Court that on March 29 both Caldwell and his ex-partner were out socialising at separate licenced premises around Hamilton.
Around 8pm Caldwell’s ex-partner was at Alexandra House, when she claims her phone was taken and photos and messages were sent to Caldwell of the woman with the male victim and another man.
