117-unit lifestyle village for Portland
A $23 MILLION 117-unit residential lifestyle village has been approved by Glenelg Shire Council in one of the largest private developments in Portland in many years.
Councillors last week unanimously endorsed the proposal for the Portland Lifestyle Village on a 6.4ha site on Derril Rd, south of Willunga St.
The gated village is aimed at the over-55 age group and is slated to feature a community centre – featuring a gym, swimming pool, games and recreation room and bowling green – community garden, men’s shed and separate caravan and boat storage.
The housing sites, which would be perpetually leased, range from 200 square metres to 270 square metres.
The dwellings would be one- or two-bedrooms and priced under $250,000.
An on-site manager will oversee the facility, and there would be a bus service connecting the village to the city centre and events.
Thirty sites would be developed in the first stage of the village, on sites of up to 220 square metres. The whole project is designed to be completed over five stages.
The planning application was submitted on behalf of C. Cini and Company, Vidic Group and Natsam Australia.
