Celtix Green, Shawnee clash in one for the ages
SUNDAY’S Portland Basketball Association division one women’s grand final went right down to the wire with Celtix Green emerging victorious 55-53 over Shawnee.
After finishing the home and away season locked in first and second on the ladder, both with 11 wins and six losses, play between these two sides was always going to be fierce.
With Tanielle Knight and Tayla Stock in fine form Shawnee held an early seven-point advantage, but by half time that lead had evaporated and the sides were locked on 27-all.
The scoreboard remained tight until the final seconds of the contest, with Paige Clayton securing the final basket with 20 seconds left on the clock to break the deadlock and snare the win.
Celtix Green coach Leah Sullivan said competition between the two sides was evenly matched all season.
“All season, every time we play Shawnee, it’s always within five points,” Sullivan said.
