Extra wind farm parts to be seen on local roads
A SECOND trucking company is using a local road route, and transport hours have been extended, for the haulage of large wind farm components from the Port of Portland.
A Glenelg Shire Council spokesperson said Rex Andrews Transport was recently given permission to transport over-sized parts along the 7km route local road route between 1pm and 8pm daily, excluding school bus route usage times, until the end of January.
Rex Andrews is delivering parts to a Portland-Nelson Rd storage yard then transporting them to the Wimmera-region’s Bulgana Wind Farm.
The company is the second to be issued with an approval to transport large parts along the local roads because they cannot fit underneath the Bridgewater Rd underpass on Portland’s Henty Hwy Ring Rd.
Parts for this project include 40 metre-long turbines, which weigh up to 100 tonne and can be as high as 5.5 metres.
Ares Transport Group is also currently transporting Senvion components of up to six metres high to their new storage area on Madeira Packet Rd, just south of the Portland Golf Club, before they leave the site between 5am and 7am or 9am to 1pm daily.
