Juniors eye off Southern 500
RACING returns to the Southern 500 Speedway track in Heathmere tomorrow with a night highlighted by high-speed junior driving.
In the Southern 500 Speedway’s second meeting for the 2018-19 season the Junior S500 Cup will be the headline act alongside the limited sportsman division.
The night will also feature standard saloon racing, production sedans and the classic hotrods.
Southern 500 president Darren Pumpa said with some ideal conditions on the horizon it was shaping up to be a strong meeting.
“We’ve had some good nominations so far but of course we’d always like to see more too,” Pumpa said.
“The junior sedan racing will be the main event, and then we’ll also have the old heavies out on the track having a run which is good to see.
“So far we’ve got junior drivers from as far as Alexandra and Ballarat coming along which is great.
“The track is looking good at the moment, we’ve put a fair bit of water into it recently and the recent rain has been good too.
“Fingers crossed it’s a nice little meeting and everyone has a good night.”
• Following the weekend’s racing, Southern 500 Speedway competition returns on January 5 for the club’s biggest meeting of the season.
The Formula 500 Speedweek final will dominate the track, while the always entertaining Anton Domburg Caravan Race will finish the night off in its traditional iconic smash-and-bash style.
Junior sedans, production sedans and standard saloons divisions will also hit the track on the night.
