Mixed results as Country Week continues
PORTLAND’S under-17 Country Week Cricket campaign in Warrnambool has produced mixed results after the first three days of play, picking up two wins and two losses.
Prior to play on Thursday, Portland sit in sixth spot in the rankings, trailing three sides with three wins from four starts – including Hamilton Gold, the competition’s lead side.
After a win on Monday against Warrnambool-Grassmere, play continued on Tuesday for Portland with a one-day loss against Colac Gold at DW Jones Oval.
Portland won the toss and elected to bat first and at the top of the order captain Lachie Kirk (52) and first drop Lachie Warburton (32) combined to take the side as far as 1-78.
Following the loss of Warburton however the side’s run rate dried up, with Portland finishing at 9-143.
Colac Gold then headed out to bat and was eventually dismissed in the 49th over for 198.
Portland had three multiple wicket takers, with Warburton (3-35), joined by Max Wilson (4-30) and Liam Preston (3-24).
