Portland lauded for outstanding regatta
ORGANISERS at the Portland Yacht Club are over the moon after hosting a high-successful regatta for the 2019 Taipan Catamaran Australian Championships.
Beginning on December 28 and concluding on January 4, Portland played host to some of the nation’s best and brightest sailors, as well as celebrating the 30th anniversary of the first Taipan Catamaran itself.
Portland Yacht Club commodore Michael Doherty said the feedback received from visiting crews was overwhelming.
“I must say we’re feeling pretty proud,” Doherty said.
“It’s a relief to reach the end of the week and it’s great to know that our little club did really well.
“Heading into it I always had the faith in our club, I knew that we were capable of running a national regatta, and based on the feedback we’ve received we put on a serious spectacle.
“All of the yachties and families that came along were extremely impressed with Portland as a town and out on the water, we were blessed with some great sailing.”
