Storer rises to the occasion, snares series
THE Storer family’s domination over the Victorian Wingless Sprints Summer Slam continues for another year with Luke Storer claiming the speedway title on Sunday night.
The Summer Slam began on Friday night at the Borderline Speedway in Mount Gambier and continued on Saturday at Western Speedway in Hamilton, before concluding on Sunday at Premier Speedway in Warrnambool.
Heading into the three-stage series, Portlander Daniel Storer, 24, was a heavily-fancied favourite after sweeping the Summer Slam in 2018.
Two crashes on the opening two nights destroyed Storer’s chances of defending his title, however for younger brother Luke Storer things were just getting started.
The 21-year-old’s campaign began with a feature win at Mount Gambier, leading Alex Ross in second and Luke Weel in third.
His form continued in the second round, finishing in fourth spot behind Jordan Abbott, Weel and Mick Rigby.
In the third and final round Luke qualified in second spot, however a crash and the need for emergency services on the second lap of the final brought an end to the night.
