Tyrendarra through to Sungold Twenty20s
TYRENDARRA are the winners of the Portland and District Cricket Association’s inaugural Twenty20 Festival of Cricket after besting Portland Tigers in yesterday’s grand final.
In a change of approach for the Association towards the shortest format of the game, all six clubs entered individual teams into a two-day tournament – with nine matches played at Henty Park, split between the turf and hard wickets.
The teams were divided into two pools – the first consisting of Tyrendarra, Portland Tigers and Drumborg-Heywood – and the second Portland Colts, Gorae-Portland and South Portland with all teams playing two preliminary round matches on Saturday and the top two from each pool progressing to yesterday morning’s semi-finals.
Portland Tigers won a thrilling semi-final on the hard wicket against Portland Colts, getting the winning runs with just three balls to spare, while Tyrendarra defeated Gorae-Portland on the turf in the other semi.
