A great bay to celebrate classics, by the way
CLASSICS by the Bay just keeps getting bigger and the organisers are in no doubt as to the reason for the Portland show ‘n’ shine’s success.
“When you’ve got the foreshore as a backdrop, everyone wants to come,” said Portland Classic Auto Club president Craig Dennert.
The sixth version of the annual event will take place on the foreshore from 10am to 4pm on Saturday, and Mr Dennert said up to 350 classic cars, utes, vans and motorbikes were expected, up about 50 on last year.
That itself was 50 more than 2017, and Mr Dennert said the event was attracting enthusiasts from far and wide.
“We get them from as far as NSW, Melbourne and Adelaide,” he said.
“They come from everywhere, it’s one of the shows that’s on everyone’s calendar, they love coming here with the beautiful backdrop.
“Often they’ll come on Friday and stay overnight after the show and go home on Sunday so they can enjoy Portland as well.”
That also extends to the man who has been the show’s special guest in recent years, Fletch from the television show Classic Restos.
