South youth unwavering in the face of defeat
SOUTH Portland will enter day two of its contest against Gorae-Portland tomorrow refusing to relent despite sitting firmly behind the eight ball at the mid-way point of the tenth round of the season.
South Portland’s journey through the Portland and District Cricket Association’s 2018-19 season took the side to Cavalier Park on Saturday, taking on Go-Ports in a desperate bid to snare a place in the top four.
Unfortunately for the home side things quickly unravelled, with South dismissed for 113 runs in the 40th over of the day and giving up first innings points before stumps.
When play resumes tomorrow Go-Ports will continue to bat, eight wickets down and with a 45-run advantage.
Sam Roberts and Andre Wallace are the two batsmen unbeaten at the crease.
South Portland captain Scott Martin said his side remains optimistic heading into day two.
“An outright remains a possibility for both sides at this stage and I think it’s definitely going to be an interesting weekend,” Martin said.
