Speedway ready for action-packed night
THE Southern 500 Speedway will once again roar to life tomorrow, hosting a jam-packed night of racing.
The annual King of the Ring standard saloons tournament will take place alongside the Super Rods Bill Campbell Memorial as the two headline acts of the meeting.
The support acts on the night will be the junior sedans, production sedans and street stocks.
Tomorrow night’s meeting comes in a busy period for the track in Heathmere, with the Club Championships taking place the following weekend (March 23).
The King of the Ring meeting also follows a highly successful meeting on February 16, with the club hosting a round of the Formula 500 Stampede.
Southern 500 Speedway president Darren Pumpa said promising conditions on the horizon left the club with plenty to look forward to tomorrow night.
“The weather should be good and the track is looking good,” Pumpa said.
“The track came up looking good after our last meeting and we’ve had a bit of rain lately which is good.
“I’m not too sure about the numbers at this stage but we’re pretty sure they should be good, with a few busy nights on lately we should have good numbers coming down to race.
“After that we’ve got the Club Championships and the old heavys and that will be the end of it.
“We’ve had a good year, plenty of good racing and good weather and it’s all worked out well.”
