Division one side moves from strength to strength
THE campaign for the joint team of Portland-Cavaliers within the Lower South East Hockey Association’s 2019 division one men’s competition improved again in the second round, recording a victory over Tigers.
Battling it out in Mount Gambier on Sunday, Portland-Cavaliers emerged with a 2-1 victory.
Tigers were first to strike, scoring early on, however Portland-Cavaliers continued to apply pressure, particularly through the middle via Lachie Donehue and Reagan Simons, and created a flow of scoring chances.
Portland-Cavaliers coach Andrew Thomas said it was a huge result for a side still learning how to gel together.
“It was a hard, hard game of hockey,” Thomas said.
“There were some really big tackles in the first half and it got a little physical and heated early on.
“Both teams were determined to plant their feet and make a big statement.”
