Yumbah: How the councillors came to their decision
THE decision on whether or not to grant Yumbah Nyamat a planning permit was in the hands of six Glenelg Shire councillors.
Their numbers were reduced by one before the debate when the seventh councillor, Alistair McDonald, declared a direct conflict of interest due to his business involvement with Yumbah.
In the end they voted 5-1 in favour of the proposal.
The council motion to approve a permit with conditions was moved by Chrissy Hawker and seconded by Geoff White.
Cr Hawker said councillors needed to look at where employment and prosperity in the shire were being generated.
“We must look at job growth in our shire and ask who have been the winners and losers in the job market in the last 20 years,” she said.
