Early voting proving popular
PORTLAND might have had a later start to early voting on the Federal Election than some other centres, but it is certainly proving popular.
Officials estimate about 6000 people will cast pre-poll ballots at Legacy Lodge by the time early voting finishes on Friday night, and so far voters are keeping pace with that number.
After 936 people cast their votes on Saturday, the first day of pre-poll voting in Portland, 1023 went through Legacy Lodge on Monday, according to Australian Electoral Commission figures.
Tuesday numbers were not available in time for the Observer’s deadline.
A total of 4819 voted early in Portland across five days at the last federal election in 2016.
