Election-day sausage sizzles return
THE DEMOCRACY sausage is making a comeback when two election-day sausage sizzles are held tomorrow – outside Portland and Narrawong’s main halls.
A meat-lover’s barbecue will return to Portland’s Civic Hall when Salvation Army supporters host a fry-up from early in the morning, and the small community of Narrawong is also preparing for a sizzle outside its local hall.
Salvation Army Portland corps officer Heather Stamp said in a welcome boost to their annual Red Shield Appeal fundraising campaign, the Salvos have received permission to host the barbecue outside Portland’s hall from 8am to 3pm.
For those who have voted before tomorrow, or who vote elsewhere but still want to support the appeal, door knocking will take place in the following weeks and there will be people collecting money outside Woolworths Portland Monday to Friday next week from 9am to 7pm.
And on Saturday May 25, Sunday May 26 and Saturday June 1 people will be rattling a collection cup at the Percy and Henty St traffic lights.
