Election early voting still popular in Portland
DESPITE a late start to early voting for tomorrow’s federal election, almost 4000 votes have already been cast in Portland since Saturday.
Officials estimated about 6000 people will cast pre-poll ballots at Legacy Lodge by Friday 6pm, and so far 3925 votes have been made on the four days the centre has been open.
A combined 1959 pre-poll ballots were cast on Saturday and Monday.
On Tuesday a further 966 votes were cast, while exactly 1000 ballots were cast on Wednesday.
Yesterday’s figures were unavailable at the time of print.
At the last federal election in 2016, 4819 people voted early in Portland across five days.
As of 6pm Wednesday 15,436 pre-poll ballots have been cast across the Wannon electorate – there are 114,617 enrolled voters – since early voting began nation-wide on April 29.
