Fourth term for Tehan
THE overall result of the federal election on Saturday night might have been a surprise, but there was no such suspense locally, with sitting member Dan Tehan having plenty of reason for celebration.
Mr Tehan was re-elected for his fourth term as Wannon’s representative in Canberra, defying a statewide swing against his Liberal Party to increase his share of the vote.
Thanks to what Liberal leader and Prime Minister-elect Scott Morrison called a “miracle” result, Mr Tehan will not only form part of the Coalition government, but is expected to again be Education Minister.
“Scott Morrison said in the lead-up to the election that he wants me to continue as Education Minister (if re-elected),” Mr Tehan told the Observer.
“Ultimately it’s his decision and if that’s how it plays out it would be an honour.”
