Super sessions educate youth on mental health
PORTLAND has hosted the first of two Read the Play super sessions, held on Tuesday night to a score of young footballers from the region, educating the young sportsmen on mental health and suicide prevention.
Now in its eighth year, Read the Play aims to break down the stigma surrounding mental health by creating awareness and initiating conversations.
About 80 young footballers from the Portland Football Netball Club under-18.5 and Portland Junior Football Association under-16.5 age groups attended the two-hour session, where they trained with Portland footballers before sitting down for a group meal, discussion and activities.
Portland Read the Play chairwoman Lee-Anne Nelson said the event was a resounding success.
“The first Read the Play super session was really well received,” Mrs Nelson said.
