12,000 reasons to smile
THEY weren’t quite sure how it would go, but Tim Smith and his family have been left overwhelmed by the response to a fundraiser in Portland on Saturday.
A poker run was held to raise funds to support Tim, 23, who suffered serious spinal injuries after jumping into shallow water at Narrawong in January.
Since then he has been in hospital in Melbourne and rehabilitation at the Grace Mackellar Centre in Geelong, but made the trip back on Saturday for the fundraiser.
And it exceeded all expectations, with about $12,000 raised.
“It was awesome,” said Tim’s mum Sandy Smith.
“Everything surpassed expectations. The weather was perfect and Tim was overwhelmed.”
