169kg tuna the biggest ever in Victorian waters
WHAT was probably the biggest southern bluefin tuna caught in Victorian waters was reeled in off the coast of Portland on Thursday.
Portland angler Rambo Lawson, a deckhand on board a Reel Time Fishing Charters boat, hauled in a whopper on a rod and reel about lunchtime about 2km off Cape Grant in 40m-deep water.
Reeltime Fishing Charters owner Matt Cini was the skipper of the charter and said it took about two hours to catch the fish, a male measuring about 2.05m in length and weighing 169kg.
Mr Lawson was one of a crew of seven as its clients had a big morning fishing.
“Our clients had caught all their fish and wanted to head in, so then it was our turn,” Mr Cini said.
