2019 Winter Solstice Fun Run set for Sunday
IN a bid to keep people active this winter the Portland Runners Club is once again hosting their annual Winter Solstice Fun Run on Sunday.
The event has been a big drawcard in the community since the first staging in 2013 and it continues to evolve, with the introduction of a new 25km trail run/walk expected to add a new element to the day.
The trail run and walk follows the success of the inaugural trail run as part of the Portland Runners Club’s Three Bays Marathon Festival last November.
Like the traditional 15km road run/walk, the 25km trail run/walk will start at the Cape Nelson Lighthouse and finish at the Ploughed Field (via the Portland Lighthouse), but will head bush along the Great South West Walk, following the coastline.
There will also be the 9km run/walk, which will take in the Fawthrop Lagoon and foreshore area, before finishing at the Ploughed Field opposite the hospital, and at the finish line there is a free 1km kids dash at 11.30am.
