Cold, hard cash for Big Freeze for MND fundraiser
SEVERAL local heroes put their bodies and pride on the line to help raise almost $3000 for the Big Freeze for MND fundraiser on Sunday.
Junior football clubs West Portland and Heywood hosted the FightMND round fundraiser at Alexandra Park, with local football and netball personalities dressing up as their favourite superheroes before sliding into a pool of ice-cold water.
Local sporting icons Winis Imbi, Vaughan Hockley, Lee-Anne Nelson, Jason Saunders, Leon Davis and Tom Sharp were among the many brave volunteers who took the plunge.
West Portland Junior Football Club president and organiser Jeremy Reynolds said the event exceeded expectations.
“The whole day was really good. We had a great turn out from the community and support from the local clubs,” Mr Reynolds said.
“A total of $2886.30 has been raised to help find a cure.
“Thank you again to everyone who contributed to this event – our amazing sliders, our sponsors, our volunteers, everyone who donated and bought a beanie.
“Thank you for joining the fight against MND.”
Big Freeze for MND fundraisers were held across the region, with similar events held in Coleraine and Cobden.
